Pathways for Children & Youth

Intake

Pathways' centralized intake service is designed to provide prompt response to community members seeking assistance. The centralized system ensures that all requests for service are handled in a consistent, timely, and efficient manner, and that participants have an opportunity to explain their strengths, concerns, and goals for service. While most referrals are made by phone, we have also created an online referral form that can be accessed through this website.

The intake secretary typically responds to all referral requests on the day the initial call is made. The secretary collects some basic information and arranges an appointment for the client with an intake counsellor.

Hours of operation for the intake service are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Before and after-hours intake appointments are available as needed. Typically, intake interviews are conducted over the telephone, but they are occasionally done in person. In-person appointments occur with walk-ins and by mutual agreement between the client and the intake counsellor.

The intake counsellor will:
~collect the required information and gain an understanding of the client's story
~assess the urgency of the referral
~discuss and determine the most appropriate arrangement for service
~identify necessary interim support
~schedule an appointment with a Community Site staff member or consultation team when indicated
~re-direct referrals to other agencies as appropriate
~and, where necessary, support the family while waiting for an appointment.

To contact an intake counsellor, please call 613-546-1422 ext. 1. You can also contact an intake counsellor by filling out the online referral form located to the right by clicking on "Online Request for Service".
